Students in grades 7-12 who are enrolled in choir, band, or orchestra have the opportunity to take part in a festival sponsored by the Wisconsin School Music Association. The district level of this event is held during the spring semester. (Dates are determined by each school’s “district.”) This is a non-competitive festival.
Students may enter a number of events both on solo instruments or in ensembles. All entries must be chosen from the approved list. The music is grouped into three levels with Class C being the easiest. No memorization is required except for the Musical Theater event.
Students in the highest level (Class A) have the opportunity to play at the State Festival if they receive a 1* in the District Festival. State Festival is generally held at UWEC on the first Saturday of May.
